Why aren't the damage numbers accurate?
The damage numbers display Attack Power, not damage.
This isn't really a technical limitation as much as it is a design choice. There are a lot of factors that go into calculating how much health you actually lose when an attack hits, so displaying the actual damage of each hit wouldn't tell you how much damage an attack does by default, and it could lead to a lot of misconceptions.
If you want to know "how much damage does this attack do generally?" that's what this number is for. If you hit somebody 9 times with 1 Attack Power, they'll take roughly as much damage as if you hit them 1 time 9 Attack Power.
If you want to know the actual formula, here it is:
- Attack Power (what the damage number says)
- X 100
- X Fault Advantage multiplier
- X Core damage multiplier
-
- Rage Damage
- X (1-AttackerMaxHealth/AttackerCurrentHealth)
- Rage Damage
Then after all of that is added up and multiplied it's cut in half if you're still holding the attack button when the attack hits. It's also cut in half if you're playing as Cyanide in Blood Rush.
Though, the damage numbers do actually change when Cyanide enters Blood Rush because her attacks being multi-hits makes them different enough that I felt it would make sense for players to think of them as separate attacks, and the game tries to treat them as if they are separate attacks. (for example in IPS)
So hopefully you can understand why I'd rather just say:
This attack does 3 damage, this other attack does 5.
Instead of telling people:
Yeah this attack does 521.339 repeating damage but only at 3 o'clock on a Sunday if you're playing as Cyanide and are south of the equator.
Maybe I should make a YouTube video about this.
